It is often confused with\u00a0<a title=\"Frostbite\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frostbite\">frostbite<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Trench foot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trench_foot\">trench foot<\/a>. Damage to\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Capillary beds\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Capillary_beds\">capillary beds<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a title=\"Skin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skin\">skin<\/a>\u00a0causes\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Redness\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Redness\">redness<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Itching\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Itching\">itching<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Inflammation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inflammation\">inflammation<\/a>, and sometimes\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Blisters\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blisters\">blisters<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chilblains#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Chilblains can be reduced by keeping the feet and hands warm in cold weather, and avoiding extreme temperature changes.<\/p>\n<p>Chilblains can be\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Idiopathic\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Idiopathic\">idiopathic<\/a>\u00a0(spontaneous and unrelated to another disease), but may also be a manifestation of another serious medical condition that must be investigated. A history of chilblains suggests a\u00a0<a title=\"Connective tissue disease\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Connective_tissue_disease\">connective tissue disease<\/a>\u00a0(such as\u00a0<a title=\"Lupus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lupus\">lupus<\/a>). But covid-19 patients are getting it in springtime.
