I&#8217;ll skip the usual details and simply note that Kenny, our clinical subject, smokes, drinks, gambles, and plays pool, which, of course, leaves little time for working; he&#8217;s bitter and has the personality of a sponge; he&#8217;s not particularly good looking; and, finally, he has no money.<\/p>\n<p>And apparently all of this is meaningless to the local ladies, who flock to him regardless.<\/p>\n<p>All of this renders this tale of mobsters and the virtues of working with one&#8217;s hands, rather than being shot at by the cops, a bit hard to take.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Landing in the morality tale category is Whistle Stop (1946), a dour tale condemning all the usual sins, with the usual rewards for those who stay on the path.
