{"id":26073,"date":"2019-09-19T12:32:46","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T17:32:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=26073"},"modified":"2019-09-19T12:32:46","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T17:32:46","slug":"accelerating-towards-the-apocalypse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2019\/09\/19\/accelerating-towards-the-apocalypse\/","title":{"rendered":"Accelerating Towards The Apocalypse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a sign that I have fallen behind on my reading, I have yet another <strong><em>NewScientist<\/em><\/strong> (31 August 2019) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/2214179-chinas-two-child-policy-linked-to-5-million-extra-babies-in-18-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reference<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Chinese government policy allowing all couples to have two children led to an additional 5.4 million births in the first 18 months after it took effect.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s universal two-child policy, announced in October 2015, was designed to boost the country\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn28423-peak-china-beijing-makes-doomed-attempt-to-boost-birth-rate\/\">stagnating population growth<\/a>. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Birth rates declined to a low of 1.49 births per woman in 1999. Driven by concerns about an ageing population and shrinking workforce, from November 2013, a selective two-child policy was introduced: couples were allowed to have a second child if either parent was an only child.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Putting more pressure on the environment, the cities, and, in general, human civilization.
