For queer theorists, gay men who have conventional lives are sometimes deemed \u201chomonormative\u201d \u2014 a riff on the term \u201cheteronormative\u201d, which means conforming to straight culture. Being \u201chomonormative\u201d means not totally conforming to queer, alternative culture, or being able to pass as \u201cstraight\u201d or simply being yourself in much of the country.
