Keeping up this thread<\/a> on Republican dissension over President Trump, another retired GOP<\/em><\/strong> Congressman has stepped forward to reprimand his former colleagues, Senator Cohen (R-ME):<\/p>\n

All who are elected or appointed to high office are fiduciaries of the public trust. Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Cardozo\u00a0once described the standard<\/a>\u00a0of a fiduciary\u2019s conduct to be \u201csomething stricter than the morals of the marketplace. Not honesty alone, but the punctilio of an honor the most sensitive.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the\u00a0exception thus far of Rep. Justin Amash<\/a> (R-Mich.), Republicans have taken the position that Mueller\u2019s redacted report has resolved all issues of alleged presidential collusion with the Russians and obstruction of justice. Case closed.<\/p>\n

This is not a tenable position. The Mueller report has raised nearly as many questions as it has answered. But more important, as someone who legislatively helped craft the original Office of Special Counsel, I can attest that Congress never intended to subcontract out its investigative powers to the executive branch.<\/p>\n

Senator Cohen has written something a little magisterial, simple language that is yet evocative.<\/p>\n

And accurate. It’s worth a read.<\/p>\n

This still doesn’t constitute a tidal wave of Republican dissension, but it’s another step along the way.
