These formations may have resulted from carcass burial in an\u00a0anoxic<\/a>\u00a0environment with minimal bacteria, thus delaying decomposition.\u00a0Lagerst\u00e4tten<\/i>span\u00a0geological<\/a>\u00a0time from the\u00a0Neoproterozoic<\/a>\u00a0era to the\u00a0present<\/a>. A lagerst\u00e4tte is an area were rocks have preserved evidence of ancient life\u2014with extraordinary fidelity and in great numbers.
