Raw unfiltered honey contains bee pollen, which has long been considered one of nature\u2019s most nourishing foods.<\/strong> Bee pollen is packed with protein, and has been used in Chinese medicine to improve unbalanced nutrition, vitality, longevity, and energy. It is also used for weight control, beauty, anti-aging, allergies, and overall health.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Any time I see a reference to Chinese medicine, holistic medicine, etc, my ears prick up.\u00a0 So I checked on bee pollen on <i><b>WebMD<\/b><\/i>.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t address the topic directly, but rather <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/bee-pollen-benefits-and-side-effects\" target=\"_blank\">simply says<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You may also hear recommendations for using bee pollen for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/mental-health\/alcohol-abuse\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\">alcoholism<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/asthma\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\">asthma<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/allergies\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\">allergies<\/a>, health maintenance, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/digestive-disorders\/picture-of-the-stomach\" target=\"_blank\">stomach<\/a> problems, but there is no proof that it helps with these conditions. Before you take any natural product for a health condition, check with your doctor.<\/p>\n<p>Bee pollen is also recommended by some herbalists to enhance athletic performance, reduce <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/cancer\/tips-for-managing-chemotherapy-side-effects\" target=\"_blank\">side effects of chemotherapy<\/a>, and improve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/asthma\/guide\/allergies-asthma\" target=\"_blank\">allergies and asthma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, medical research has not shown that bee pollen is effective for any of these health concerns.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Or anything at all, really.\u00a0 On the other hand, it&#8217;s not considered dangerous except to pregnant women.\u00a0 Another case of greener grass in other pastures, I suppose.\u00a0 The nitty-gritty of the local variety of medicine can&#8217;t compare to the unverified claims for the one in the next valley over.<\/p>\n<p>But I still like most honey.\u00a0 (Didn&#8217;t care for buckwheat-derived honey so much, though.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katherine Martinko @ TreeHugger.com reviews some information on raw honey vs refined honey, and, loving honey, I had to read it.\u00a0 This caught my eye: 1.
