I&#8217;ll use ursulafaw&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2019\/1\/3\/1823331\/-Racists-Meltdown-After-Newly-Elected-Congresswoman-Swears-Oath-On-Thomas-Jefferson-s-Copy-Of-Koran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> on <em><strong>The Daily Kos<\/strong><\/em>, just because it&#8217;s convenient:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib asked to be sworn into the House of Representatives using a Koran once owned by Thomas Jefferson in lieu of a Bible and the proverbial s*it hit the fan. To add a comic spin to the proceeding, none other than evangelical wingnut Vice President Mike Pence conducted the swearing in where this (undoubtedly to his mind) heretical request was made.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Etc etc (in the usual progressive patronizing tone of voice). Another new member used a law book, which motivates me to say:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ALMOST, BUT NOT QUITE.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look, we&#8217;re a <strong>secular nation<\/strong>, and these folks are taking an <a href=\"https:\/\/history.house.gov\/Institution\/Origins-Development\/Oath-of-Office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oath<\/a> to defend the Constitution, etc etc. So why the hell aren&#8217;t they, that is, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, taking it <strong>on<\/strong> [a copy of] the Constitution?
