They recently traveled to South Africa, but during prep Scott was working with a visiting South African musician and had a chance to witness &#8230;. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/maskoftheflowerprince.wordpress.com\/2018\/07\/19\/preparing-for-south-africa-this-is-why-we-sing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I kept on eye on my guy, trying to discretely provide key bits of information\u2014we in the Chorale have done this work dozens of times and it\u2019s in our blood, but I can only imagine how bizarre the whole thing must seem to someone who is coming to it for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>And it was at the very end, after the final chord finally stopped reverberating from the walls that that great\u00a0<em>Moment<\/em>\u00a0finally came.<\/p>\n<p>I turned to my neighbor, and saw his face.<\/p>\n<p>It was a look you only get from performing Beethoven\u2019s Ninth for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>It was look that was one part goofy delirium, one part radiant joy, one part Divine Inspiration, and one part\u2026\u00a0<em>Holy \u2014-, did we just \u2014ing seriously do that??!!?!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I laughed, and laughed hard.\u00a0 \u201cSo, what did you think of\u2013\u201c<\/p>\n<p>He hugged me. And then with a smile wider than the 35W construction zone, he gave hug-handshakes to everyone around us.<\/p>\n<p>And then he just sat down, laughed, and spoke in unfinished sentences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was. They were so. Just a rehearsal? I can\u2019t even.\u201d\u00a0 And he rounded it off by kissing his fingertips and blowing a kiss to the orchestra.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s a good post and Scott contributes to MinnPost, so we know he&#8217;s a good writer.
