Japan recorded its highest temperature in history, 106 degrees, in a heat wave that killed 65 people in a week and hospitalized 22,000, shortly after catastrophic flooding killed 200.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"4\">Ouargla, Algeria, hit 124 degrees on July 5,\u00a0<a title=\"www.washingtonpost.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/capital-weather-gang\/wp\/2018\/07\/06\/africa-may-have-witnessed-its-all-time-hottest-temperature-thursday-124-degrees-in-algeria\/\">a likely record for the continent of Africa<\/a>. And the 109-degree reading in Quriyat, Oman, on June 28 amazed meteorologists because that wasn\u2019t the day\u2019s high temperature.\u00a0<i>That\u00a0<a title=\"www.washingtonpost.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/capital-weather-gang\/wp\/2018\/06\/27\/a-city-in-oman-just-set-the-worlds-hottest-low-temperature-ever-recorded-109-degrees\/?utm_term=.535472341d4a\">was the low<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>. It was the hottest low temperature ever recorded on Earth. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The brutal weather has been supercharged by human-induced climate change, scientists say. Climate models for three decades have predicted exactly what the world is seeing this summer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a bit warm for us here in Minnesota this summer, but not too much out of the ordinary. <em>We&#8217;ve been lucky<\/em>. The hot, hot temperatures, wild storms, and wildfires world over are reported and bring home how we&#8217;re changing the weather.<\/p>\n<p>But not in a planned way.<\/p>\n<p>In the meanwhile, is President Trump trying to do anything to repair years of governmental neglect brought on by <em><strong>GOP<\/strong><\/em> disbelief? Or does he still think it&#8217;s all a Chinese-inspired hoax? Then again, I have no idea how to interpret any answer he&#8217;d care to give.
