{"id":16574,"date":"2018-07-10T14:37:21","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T19:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=16574"},"modified":"2018-07-10T14:37:21","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T19:37:21","slug":"theres-a-clue-here-ctd-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2018\/07\/10\/theres-a-clue-here-ctd-3\/","title":{"rendered":"There\u2019s A Clue Here, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2018\/07\/09\/theres-a-clue-here-ctd-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California&#8217;s Republican embarrassment<\/a>, but now it&#8217;s back to the other coast, specifically New Jersey, as <em><strong>WaPo&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> Dave Weigel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/powerpost\/wp\/2018\/07\/09\/republicans-pull-endorsement-of-new-jersey-candidate-citing-bigotry\/?utm_term=.df74a4ba2a46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"0\">The National Republican Congressional Committee has withdrawn its endorsement of a congressional candidate in New Jersey after reporters dug up offensive comments he\u2019d made about black and Hispanic people.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"1\">\u201cBigotry has no place in society \u2014 let alone the U.S. House of Representatives,\u201d NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers said in a statement Monday night. \u201cThe NRCC withdraws our support of Seth Grossman and calls on him to reconsider his candidacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"2\">Grossman, a former elected official in Atlantic County, was not the party\u2019s first choice to run in New Jersey\u2019s 2nd District. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-N.J.) announced his retirement late last year, and the local party scrambled to find a contender in a district that backed President Trump in 2016 but was high on Democrats\u2019 target list.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"3\">No strong candidate emerged, and Grossman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2018\/06\/05\/us\/elections\/results-new-jersey-primary-elections.html\">won the four-way June 5 primary<\/a>\u00a0with 39 percent of the vote. Almost immediately, Democratic and liberal groups began digging through his social media and through videos from candidate forums.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"3\">And what did he say?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"4\">In one video, Grossman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MmcybeQ4sU4\">answered a question<\/a>\u00a0about how Republicans could reach more diverse groups of voters by saying \u201cthe whole idea of diversity is a bunch of crap, and un-American,\u201d having \u201cbecome an excuse by Democrats, communists, and socialists, to say that we\u2019re not all created equal.\u201d In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/blog\/2018\/07\/09\/gop-backed-house-candidate-promoted-white-nationalist-propaganda-including-piece-claiming-black\/220614\">a Facebook post<\/a>, first uncovered by the liberal watchdog group Media Matters, Grossman linked approvingly to an article at a white nationalist website that argued African Americans \u201care a threat to all who cross their paths, black and non-black alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"5\">\u201cOy vay!\u201d wrote Grossman. \u201cWhat so many people, black, white and Hispanic, whisper to me privately but never dare say out loud publicly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"5\">And he managed to win a plurality in the primary.
