Here&#8217;s what happened in the first State Senate district, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2018\/6\/12\/17455922\/wisconsin-special-elections-results-june\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">courtesy<\/a> <em><strong>Vox<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"pKnAjn\">Wisconsin Democrats just picked up a Republican-held state legislature seats in a duo of special elections on Tuesday, serving yet another wake-up call to Republicans in the state.<\/p>\n<p id=\"vatO07\">Democrat Caleb Frostman, the former head of the Door County Economic Development Corp, won northeastern Wisconsin\u2019s First Senate District, which voted for Donald Trump by a whopping 17 points in 2016. Frostman\u2019s seat will be up for reelection again in November.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And the other? <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Wisconsin_state_legislative_special_elections,_2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From<\/a> <em><strong>Ballotpedia<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There was also a special election in\u00a0<a title=\"Wisconsin State Assembly District 42\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Wisconsin_State_Assembly_District_42\">Wisconsin State Assembly District 42<\/a>\u00a0(AD 42) on June 12.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Walkercalls_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Wisconsin_state_legislative_special_elections,_2018#cite_note-Walkercalls-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Republican\u00a0<a title=\"Jon Plumer\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Jon_Plumer\">Jon Plumer<\/a>\u00a0defeated Democrat\u00a0<a title=\"Ann Groves Lloyd\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Ann_Groves_Lloyd\">Ann Groves Lloyd<\/a>\u00a0and independent candidate\u00a0<a title=\"Gene Rubinstein\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Gene_Rubinstein\">Gene Rubinstein<\/a>. Plumer received 53 percent of the vote to retain the seat for Republicans.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wonder why <em><strong>Vox<\/strong><\/em> didn&#8217;t cover that, perhaps comparing the districts to see why they split. Granted, 53% is a majority of the voters, but not a large one. The Democrat won 40% of the vote, and the balance went to the Independent, who does not appear to have played much of a role in this election. A quick eyeballing of the district&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Wisconsin_State_Assembly_District_42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">history<\/a> indicates winning 53% of the vote is less than average, but not the sort of thing to raise the alarms &#8211; the last few elections were won by Republican candidates with less than 60% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>And that, more or less, satisfies my curiosity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the hubbub about the Wisconsin special elections?
