{"id":14662,"date":"2018-03-08T14:36:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-08T20:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=14662"},"modified":"2018-03-08T14:36:14","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T20:36:14","slug":"but-what-happens-tomorrow-folks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2018\/03\/08\/but-what-happens-tomorrow-folks\/","title":{"rendered":"But What Happens Tomorrow, Folks?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jonathan Chait of <em><strong>New York<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/2018\/03\/gop-russia-investigators-not-following-russia-news.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thinks<\/a> the <em><strong>GOP<\/strong><\/em> are slackers:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4p001e3h60covw12vf@published\" data-word-count=\"39\">What makes Conaway\u2019s lack of familiarity with the name \u201cGeorge Nader\u201d especially troublesome is that Conaway is the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee and putatively running the lower chamber\u2019s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4b00193h600o1wkovn@published\" data-word-count=\"85\">If you\u2019re getting the idea that maybe Conaway and his party aren\u2019t utterly determined to uncover foul play between Moscow and Trump Tower, your suspicions are warranted. Conaway recently declared the investigation to be nearing its completion. \u201cAll investigations have a natural conclusion,\u201d he explained. \u201cAs soon as we have everybody interviewed, we\u2019ll start working on the report, we\u2019ll get the report finalized, and we\u2019ll move forward. Every investigation ought to have a conclusion, including this one. So we\u2019re coming towards the end of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4d001a3h60uc13g86v@published\" data-word-count=\"82\">Investigations, you see, have a \u201cnatural\u201d conclusion. It is out of his hands. And so while Conaway\u2019s committee has not forced the witnesses to answer questions Democrats believe they should answer, or even learned the names of major figures in the underlying investigation, there\u2019s no arguing with nature. Anyway, it\u2019s not like they\u2019re investigating something like Benghazi, which took place in 2012 and was still being investigated four years later in a fruitless attempt to establish that the Obama administration deliberately lied.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4d001a3h60uc13g86v@published\" data-word-count=\"82\">Mr. Nader is the witness <em>du jour<\/em> for the Mueller team, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/03\/06\/politics\/george-nader-robert-mueller\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>. If Chait is right &#8211; and he has a good reputation &#8211; then the GOP is basically <em>abdicating<\/em> one of its most important responsibilities. This shouldn&#8217;t be a surprise, given what we&#8217;ve seen over the last year. But I just have to ask &#8211; what happens if the Democrats take the House after the mid-terms? Do they re-open the investigation and show how to do a proper investigation?<\/p>\n<p data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4d001a3h60uc13g86v@published\" data-word-count=\"82\">If so, the behavior of Chairman Nunes, Representative Conaway, and the rest of the <em><strong>GOP<\/strong><\/em> members of the House Intel Committee will become prime fodder for the 2020 elections, then, and might result in the burial of the <em><strong>GOP<\/strong><\/em> as a political party.<\/p>\n<p data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/daily\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjehp3c4d001a3h60uc13g86v@published\" data-word-count=\"82\">We&#8217;re seeing another reason to loathe and reject <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2017\/05\/12\/toxic-team-politics-aka-race-2016-power-politics-ctd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">team politics<\/a> &#8211; it&#8217;s turning out to be destructive to the Republican Party. <em>That loyalty makes it impossible to do their job like adults<\/em>.
