The top lobbyist for the National Rifle Association claimed late\u00a0Thursday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that President Trump had retreated from\u00a0his surprising support a day earlier for gun control measures<\/a>\u00a0after a meeting with N.R.A. officials and Vice President Mike Pence in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

The lobbyist, Chris Cox,\u00a0posted on Twitter just after\u00a09 p.m.<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0that he met with Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence, saying that \u201cwe all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people. POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, support strong due process and don\u2019t want gun control. #NRA #MAGA.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump tweeted about an hour later<\/a>, \u201cGood (Great) meeting in the Oval Office\u00a0tonight<\/span><\/span>\u00a0with the NRA!\u201d [The New York Times<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

There’s in public, and then there’s\u00a0in public, Presidential style<\/i>. Perhaps Donald Trump has always blown with the wind like this, but prior to becoming a candidate for President, to say nothing for President, it wasn’t really something noticeable if you weren’t directly associated with the Donald.<\/p>\n

But being President means we can all, if we wish to or feel so obligated, be directly associated with the Donald. And his wishy-washiness just becomes more and more apparent. There’s no mission, no drive, no willingness to do something for the good of the Nation – it’s all about what makes the Donald feel good\u00a0right now.<\/i><\/p>\n

He’s a ship in a gale and he’s three sheets to the wind.<\/p>\n
