A ukase<\/b>, or ukaz<\/b> (\/ju\u02d0<\/span>\u02c8<\/span>k<\/span>e\u026a<\/span>s<\/span>\/<\/a><\/span><\/span>;[1]<\/a><\/sup> Russian<\/a>: \u0443\u043a\u0430\u0437<\/span><\/i> [\u028a\u02c8kas]<\/a><\/span>, formally “imposition”), in Imperial Russia<\/a>, was a proclamation of the tsar<\/a>, government,<\/sup> or a religious leader (patriarch<\/a>) that had the force of law. “Edict<\/a>” and “decree<\/a>” are adequate translations using the terminology and concepts of Roman law<\/a>.<\/p>\n

From the Russian term, the word ukase<\/i> has entered the English language with the meaning of “any proclamation or decree; an order or regulation of a final or arbitrary nature”.<\/sup> [Wikipedia<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
