That\u2019s right\u2014the same image appeared in a total of eight papers.<\/p>\n<p>For some of the papers, the issues went beyond the single image. According to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/journal.waocp.org\/?sid=Entrez:PubMed&amp;id=pmid:29171745&amp;key=2017.18.10.2895\">retraction notice<\/a>, several papers contained other duplicated images, as well as \u201coverlapping text.\u201d \u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/journal.waocp.org\/?sid=Entrez:PubMed&amp;id=pmid:29171745&amp;key=2017.18.10.2895\">notice<\/a>, published in October 2017 in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/retractiondatabase.org\/RetractionSearch.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1#?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport%3d1%26auth%3dGuang-Hua%2bFan\"><i>Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention<\/i><\/a>\u00a0(<i>APJCP<\/i>), is essentially a letter\u00a0<i>PLOS ONE<\/i>\u00a0wrote to several journals, informing them of the issues in the eight papers, all published between 2014 and 2016. The letter mentions that\u00a0one of the papers\u2014a 2016 analysis in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/retractiondatabase.org\/RetractionSearch.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1#?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport%3d1%26ttl%3dResveratrol%2battenuates%2blipopolysaccharide-induced%2bdysfunction%2bof%2bblood-brain%2bbarrier%2bin%2bendothelial%2bcells%2bvia%2bAMPK%2bactivation\"><i>Korean Journal of Physiology<\/i><\/a>\u00a0(<i>KJPP<\/i>)\u2014had already been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/synapse.koreamed.org\/DOIx.php?id=10.4196\/kjpp.2017.21.2.277\">retracted earlier this year<\/a>. One author of the retracted\u00a0<i>KJPP<\/i>\u00a0paper confessed to using a company to prepare and submit the manuscript.<span id=\"more-53155\"><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, it may not be so much an ethical lapse as too much pressure on researchers to publish, publish, publish.
