{"id":1353,"date":"2015-06-20T13:27:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-20T18:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=1353"},"modified":"2015-06-20T13:27:34","modified_gmt":"2015-06-20T18:27:34","slug":"conflict-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2015\/06\/20\/conflict-resolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict Resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps the most intra-humanity project to be undertaken, there are many approaches to this &#8211; from mediation to the marrying off of the local princess to the king next door.\u00a0 In Iraq, the weak central government has resulted in the revival of the ancient conflict resolution practice of <em>fasliya<\/em>, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2015\/06\/iraq-tribes-women-blood-money-marriage-dispute-settlement.html\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> by <em><strong>AL Monitor<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;s Omar al-Jaffal:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhro.org\/hhro\/news.php?lang=ar&amp;art_id=2019\" target=\"_blank\">Women took to the streets<\/a> of al-Mutanabbi Street in central Baghdad June 2,\u00a0holding large banners denouncing <a href=\"http:\/\/albayyna-new.com\/?p=22171\" target=\"_blank\">fasliya marriage<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the\u00a0Arabic word for marriages arranged as compensation, through which\u00a0tribal conflicts are resolved \u2014\u00a0which has surfaced in Iraq anew. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Women who have been placed\u00a0in a fasliya marriage\u00a0are not entitled to file for divorce or separation because, according to tribal customs, they are stripped away of any rights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; saying in a statement\u00a0to al-Sumaria channel that a crisis broke out between two large tribes in Basra over the death of a woman during an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alsumaria.tv\/mobile\/news\/135960\/%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%81%D8%B8-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8%D8%B5%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%B9%D8%B4%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D9%86%D8%B3%D8%A7-%D8%A3%D8%AE%D8%B0%D9%86-%D9%81%D8%B5%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A9\/ar\" target=\"_blank\">armed conflict between both tribes<\/a>. Therefore, al-Shawi tribe presented 10 women \u2014\u00a0not 50 as the media claimed according to al-Maryani \u2014 to al-Karamsha tribe for fasliya.
