We offer no prediction as to how this will play politically or whether such antics will carry any water with Republicans who must be feeling a little uneasy today.<\/p>\n

We will say this: Mueller\u2019s opening bid is a remarkable show of strength. He has a cooperating witness from inside the campaign\u2019s interactions with the Russians. And he is alleging not mere technical infractions of law but astonishing criminality on the part of Trump\u2019s campaign manager, a man who also attended the Trump Tower meeting.<\/p>\n

Any hope the White House may have had that the Mueller investigation might be fading away vanished this morning. Things are only going to get worse from here.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For those who’ve been waiting for Trump to grow into the job, it must feel like a spike is coming right up out of their chair. This may take longer than I expected, but, unlike Andrew Sullivan<\/a>, I expect Trump will be leaving office before the end of this term, one way or another.<\/p>\n

The only question is whether his supporters come to understand their error in trusting a chronic liar, or if they’ll be obstinate on the entire matter.<\/p>\n
