Halobacteria<\/b> (also Halobacteriacea<\/b>) are a class<\/a> of the Euryarchaeota<\/a>,[1]<\/a><\/sup> found in water<\/a> saturated or nearly saturated with salt<\/a>. Halobacteria are now recognized as archaea<\/a>, rather than bacteria<\/a>. The name ‘halobacteria’ was assigned to this group of organisms before the existence of the domain Archaea<\/a> was realized, and remains valid according to taxonomic rules[citation needed<\/span><\/a><\/i>]<\/sup>.
