Today on\u00a0Maddowblog<\/b><\/i>, Steve Benen\u00a0notes\u00a0<\/a>President Trump remains obsessed with former rival Hillary Clinton:<\/p>\n

This morning, the president\u00a0added to his list<\/a>\u00a0in rather dramatic fashion. Trump tweeted:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo why aren\u2019t the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Note, since becoming president, every investigation Trump has called for has been \u2026 how do I put this gently \u2026 quite bonkers.<\/p>\n

Indeed, while we\u2019ve all become quite accustomed to Trump saying deeply strange things, especially via social media, this morning\u2019s missive was quite a bit worse than his usual fare.<\/p>\n

Whether he understands this or not, presidents are not supposed to encourage the Justice Department to go after their political rivals. Trump\u2019s authoritarian instincts routinely do not serve him well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But keep in mind how President Trump chided former press secretary Sean Spicer when Spicer was lampooned by, well,\u00a0a woman<\/i>:<\/p>\n

… Politico\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that Trump, a\u00a0two-time\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0host<\/a>\u00a0turned\u00a0vicious\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0critic<\/a>, did not like the idea that a woman was playing one of his top aides. \u201cTrump doesn\u2019t like his people to look weak,\u201d an unnamed Trump donor told them. Trump may have authoritarian instincts, but I don’t think we need to appeal to that explanation for his continual attacks on Hillary Clinton. I think Trump’s a\u00a0misogynist,<\/i>\u00a0and it absolutely grinds on him that he lost to a woman.<\/i><\/p>\n
